Geography
At Wescott we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place within it.
We seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, which will remain with them for the rest of their lives; to promote our children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
The way geography is taught at Wescott immerses the children within a topic, whilst building on key knowldge and skills from FS and throughout Key Stage 1. The intent of the geography curricululum is that our children will have a deep understanding of their local environment and the diverse surroundings in the wider world. In addition, out of class opportunities such as school trips and Eco Club provide children with the the responsibility for looking after their envionments.
A progression of skills is organised into four main themes for each year group:
- Geographical enquiry
- Geographical skills
- Investigating places
- Investigating patterns
